The Rangitaiki grade 2 expedition is an extraordinary adventure for the whole family (ages 5 and up) and those wanting time on the water to enjoy the spectacular scenery.
The expedition starts at the base of Aniwhenua Falls in the lower Rangitaiki River. Spend around an hour and a half on the water as you paddle past tumbling waterfalls, lush native forest, and the striking rock gorge. Feel the thrill of rushing white water without going through it – it’s the best of both worlds!
The trip does have rapids but they are nice rolling waves with almost no rocks to avoid.
You don’t need rafting experience for this one but you do need to be physically active as there are stairs to negotiate to get down to the river.

The Lower Rangitaiki Scenic Trip takes around 1 ½ hours on the water but you should allow around 5 ½ hours in total, including travelling to and from Rotorua, Lunch, Training etc. Complimentary pick up is available from your central Rotorua accommodation or, if you prefer, you can meet us at Raftabout Base in Murupara.
